This post is a written reflection of the video,
prepared for those who wish to read the passage slowly
and follow the flow of meditation on God’s Word.
(Genesis 6)
Will God truly judge the world?
And if He does, is judgment a declaration of failure,
or a decisive act to preserve creation once again?
Genesis chapter 6 confronts us with these questions.
This chapter reveals how far human corruption had progressed,
yet at the same time it testifies to the faith of one person
whom God chose to preserve even in the deepest darkness.
That person was Noah.
The Collapse of the Covenant Community
As humanity multiplied on the earth,
the godly lineage and the ungodly lineage began to merge.
Scripture describes this as the unions between
“the sons of God” and “the daughters of men.”
This was not merely a problem of marriage.
It marked a spiritual turning point—
the abandonment of divine calling in favor of fleshly desire.
The result was devastating:
the collapse of the covenant community,
the loss of worship,
and the breakdown of faith passed down through generations.
In Genesis 5, however, we see that the descendants of Seth
had formed a faithful lineage.
Though they lived in an age without written language,
their worship did not fade.
Why?
Because they lived extraordinarily long lives—
nearly a thousand years—
allowing ancestors and descendants to share the same lifetime.
From the days of Enosh, a worshiping community emerged.
They preserved God’s word through oral transmission,
holding firmly to what had been revealed from the beginning:
● Creation in the image of God
● The covenant of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil
● The betrayal of that covenant and its judgment
● And the promise of salvation—
that the seed of the woman would crush the head of the ancient serpent
They lived as a people waiting for the Messiah.
These were the true “sons of God,”
guardians of the image of God,
called to expand that image through holy fruitfulness.
When Holiness Is Abandoned, the World Collapses
At some point, the descendants of Seth began to choose marriage
based on appearance and emotion rather than faith.
They joined themselves to the descendants of Cain.
Ungodly unions produced ungodly generations.
God could not dwell with mere physical multiplication
that lacked holiness.
Marriage is not only a physical union—
it is a covenantal decision
that shapes the spiritual future of generations.
When choices were made according to the flesh,
the world collapsed rapidly.
Violence filled the earth,
and beings known as the Nephilim appeared—
figures marked by corruption and brutality.
God saw that every intention of the human heart
was only evil all the time,
and He grieved that He had made humankind.
120 Years of Grace, and One Man Named Noah
Yet judgment did not come immediately.
“Their days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”
These 120 years were not a delay of destruction,
but a season of grace—
an opportunity for repentance.
During this time, Noah built the ark
and proclaimed the coming judgment for over a century.
Still, humanity did not repent.
Then Scripture declares:
“But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.”
Noah was righteous in his generation,
not because he was flawless,
but because he knew grace,
preserved worship,
and walked faithfully with God.
Salvation Was Not Vague: The Ark and the Covenant
God revealed the condition of the world to Noah:
“The earth is corrupt before God and filled with violence.”
At the same time, He opened the way of salvation:
“Make yourself an ark.”
The ark was described with astonishing precision—
its length, width, height, structure, and design.
Salvation was not abstract.
It was grace prepared with absolute intention.
Then God declared:
“But I will establish my covenant with you…”
This covenant was more than escape from the flood.
It was a covenant of grace
rooted in the promise given in Eden—
the promise of the seed of the woman,
fulfilled ultimately in Jesus Christ.
Humanity had to be preserved
so that the Messiah would come
and crush the head of the ancient serpent.
Noah was God’s chosen instrument
to restart holy fruitfulness
and advance God’s redemptive purpose.
A Hundred Years of Obedience, and Today’s Question
Scripture concludes Genesis 6 by saying:
“Noah did everything just as God commanded him.”
Noah’s faith was not a single decision,
but obedience sustained for nearly one hundred years.
His life itself was a warning to the world.
Genesis 6 now asks us a question today:
When marriage collapses, the lineage of faith collapses.
When the lineage of faith collapses, the church collapses.
And when the church collapses,
the world once again fills with violence.
Yet those who receive grace
are called to build an ark of salvation.
Noah built the ark with wood.
Today, we build the ark through
the Word, worship, evangelism,
obedience, and discipleship—
the church as God’s saving community.
God does not abandon judgment.
He does not abandon salvation.
And He always chooses to work
through the obedience of one person.
May we, like Noah,
know grace,
walk with God,
build the ark of salvation,
and become agents of holy fruitfulness.
In the name of the Lord,
I bless you.
